Utility Locator Training

Utility locator training course is aimed at developing knowledge and skills associated with locating underground utilities (electric power, gas distribution, and telecommunications). This utility locator training course provides the understanding of operating various Utility Locating Devices.



Classroom Training Content


Utility Locator Training incorporates the use of custom designed interactive models and visual aids which help to enhance interest and facilitate a higher comprehension level for participants.

Practical Component


Practical skill check assessment is required in order to receive certification at the completion of the course. Operators are required to complete the Competency Skill Check on the Locator Device that will be used in their specific operating environment.




Upon completion of Utility Locator Training, operators will have the knowledge, training and information required to safely and efficiently conduct utility locates including Gas, Power, Telecomm, and various other underground infrastructure.


Duration & Location


2 hours of classroom theory followed by written competency exam. The remainder of the program includes practical operation which gives the operator an opportunity to practice newly acquired skills prior to completing a final skill check assessment for Utility Locator Operator Certification. This course is conducted at various facilities, yards or any location where operator and site-specific Utility Locating Equipment and Devices are available and utilized during training.

Utility Locator training is valid for a period of 3 Years
